Germany'S Outdoor Products Are Expected To Reach 3.7 Billion Euros
A study commissioned by the German Walking Association shows that the annual equipment consumption of nearly 40 million hikers in Germany is expected to reach 3.7 billion euros. This study is based on 7500 survey reports.
This research report, entitled "Hiking: A Market with a Bright Future", provides reliable data and facts for the current situation of the German hiking market. It points out that about 39.8 million Germans, or 56% of respondents, think they are "active hikers".
"This means that hiking is the most popular outdoor sport in Germany," said Dr. Hans Ulrich Rauchfuss, president of the German Hiking Association. In addition, mountain activities are also a popular outdoor activity in Germany, which can be seen from the large number of members of the mountaineering association.
"The number of our members has been growing steadily over the past decades. In 2009, 37000 new members were added, with a growth rate of 4.57%, which is the largest year in our history." Thomas Bucher, spokesman of the German Mountaineering Association, said.

According to this study, the most popular hiking equipment is the assault suit (92%), followed by backpacks (80%), hiking shoes (72%), sleeping bags (62%) and hiking maps (58%). However, no matter what products hikers buy, the key criteria they choose are quality and functionality.
The report estimates that German hikers spend 92 euros per capita on equipment every year, and therefore infers that the size of the German hiking market is about 3.7 billion euros, but this data does not include other people's spending on outdoor equipment
