New Standards For Children'S Pajamas In Britain Are Stricter

Standard

In order to reduce the fire accidents caused by flammable textiles and the harm to people's lives and property caused by them.

The British regulations on the combustion properties of pajamas have been revised, and came into effect in November 2008. The new standard complements the British pajamas (safety) code 1985 and the general product safety regulations, and has become a gateway to jointly protect the performance of children's pajamas in BSEN14878.

It is learnt that the revised British version of the BSEN14878 standard put forward more and more stringent requirements for flammability standards of children's pajamas.

The new standard product will be extended to the category and scope of the product. It will be applied to children and adult pajamas less than 13 years old, as well as all baby garments. The old standard only covers pajamas and pajamas made by children born to 14 years old.

Compared with the old standard, there are two changes in the BSEN14878: first, the test method for evaluating the combustion characteristics has changed, and the labeling requirements are also changed; two is the toxicity assessment of the flame retardant for all applications.

These two changes further clarify the responsibilities of producers, retailers and exporters to products, which are not specified in the general product safety regulations.

Inspection and quarantine experts believe that the United Kingdom declared that the standard is in line with the trend of textile burning in the world.

Since January 1, 2009, China has included the infant and children's clothing, shirt and pajamas in the statutory inspection catalogue. It also shows the high importance of the safety performance of textile and clothing.

The European Union is the traditional export market of textile and clothing in Ningbo. In 2008, 12856 batches of garments were imported into the EU by statutory inspection, with an amount exceeding US $331 million, of which there were many children's garments.

In the face of the huge export volume, the promulgation of relevant standards and regulations in the UK is bound to have an impact on our textile and garment industry. In particular, flammability is the focus of safety concern, involving technical aspects. Such standards and regulations should be especially concerned.

To remind the relevant enterprises, the following measures should be taken: first, carefully understand the new British children's pajamas burning safety requirements, draw inferences about the flammability standards of other children's pajamas in the EU, draw inferences about the fire hazard and flame retardant textiles, and understand the difficult problems that may be encountered in the export of children's pajamas. Two, under the influence of the current international financial crisis, we should strive to conform to the trend of international trade development, actively study the quality standards of children's pajamas, use relevant testing equipment to overcome technical obstacles, actively carry out the test of the flammability of clothing, and scientifically and reasonably choose environmentally friendly fire-retardant which is harmless to human health; three, pay attention to the label identification of children's pajamas, so as to meet the requirements of importing countries.
